Hearing rescheduled for Stanwood mental health center

The Daily Herald - 11/16/2022

STANWOOD — A proposed mental health treatment center near Stanwood has a new hearing date in January.

A hearing set for late October was postponed. New hearing dates were scheduled for Jan. 24, 25 and 26.

The proposal consists of two 16-bed facilities for involuntary mental health treatment at 80th Avenue NW and 300th Street NW. Many neighbors have objected to the proposed location while other community members support it.

The county's hearing examiner will determine whether to grant a permit for the project.

Jacob Lambert, a spokesperson for Snohomish County, said the hearing is expected to last two days, with an additional day scheduled if proceedings run long. The hearing will begin at 9 a.m.

The original hearing on Oct. 27 was cancelled after a community member filed an appeal under the State Environmental Policy Act. The hearing was postponed to address the next steps with the appeal.

Anyone may comment, either in-person or via Zoom, at the upcoming hearing. More information will be available at snohomishcountywa.gov/189/Hearing-Examiner.
